Creative Movement

Ballet & Tap (age 3)
This class is designed to encourage a child’s creative expression through movement to music, while learning some of the first ballet steps and French terminology

Pre-Ballet

Ballet & Tap (age 4)
Large motor skills are more developed at this age allowing for additional ballet & tap steps and terminology to be introduced and practiced.

Level 1

Ballet & Tap (ages 5 & 6)
Ballet steps and terminology in this level are expanded to include more technique. Combinations of steps are practiced for coordination and concentration. Tap allows the child to experience a different form of dance and rhythm.

Level 2

Ballet, Tap, Jazz (ages 7 & 8)
Technique becomes the emphasis in this level while still encouraging the joy of movement. Jazz is added to tap and ballet to promote contemporary expression.

INTERMEDIATE DIVISION

Level 3 Ballet & Pre-pointe

With over an hour devoted to ballet technique each class, strength is built and knowledge of the art is expanded. Tap and Jazz classes can be added from the Open Division to enhance the student’s curriculum. Pre-pointe exercises build ankle technique & strength, laying a strong foundation for pointe work.  While students may still enroll in just one day a week, if dancers aspire to join SCBD Youth Company one day, we encourage them to enroll in ballet at least 2 days/week as they become more serious in their training. â€‹â€‹
